Description

Waterapple is native to the South-East Asia and Pacific Islands. The colour of the fruit varies from pale green to ruby red. The fruit is bell-shaped and is about 5 cm in diameter, the centre is hollow and filled with woolly fibres and brown seeds. Waterapple has a slightly acidic flavour and can be very sour. Vietnamese often use waterapples as altar fruit due to their vibrant colours.

To eat: cut the fruit in parts, remove the seed and the core part and enjoy. The flavour of the waterapple fruit is a bit like a snow pear, with some bitter background. It is quite refreshing and juicy.

These are very good. Most people eat them with a hot spice mixture, but they are the best when pulled right off the tree. I love the bright red ones!
