Description
This recreation area lies between Đà Nẵng and Huế. This is still quite genuine and from touristic point of view somewhat underdeveloped. The springs are located around 17 km north of Hai Van pass, if you come from Đà Nẵng. The sign to Suối Voi (Suối: springs, Voi: elephant) can easily be missed (look at the sign “Phú Bài 44km”). After turning right, follow a bumpy Vietnamese country road, the provisional parking area appears appear after 1,7 km. The springs can be reached from the parking place after a five-minute walk through the jungle. The area consists of a number of natural pools with clear and cool water, scattered by huge boulders. With some imagination, you can find a boulder, which looks like an elephant head, giving the name of the springs. Climbing on the boulders and swimming in the springs or just relax on some sitting mats, offered by the locals, can give you opportunities to spend several hours visiting this lovely, still-undiscovered area.

A Close Encounter with nature...
Bob Lawson from Lakewood, CA - 04/02/2010 02:11:19
I find coming to this place a lot more convenient when you head off from Da Nang to Hue via Hai Van Pass. The secluded setting of this recreation area is a nice place to get away from all the noise and enjoy a close encounter with nature. The short walk from the parking area to the springs is a great way to get physical without overdoing it. If you really want some peace and quiet, schedule your visit on a weekday. The place is more crowded by locals during the weekends. They do have some food stalls along the springs, yet you can also bring your own basket and have your little picnic for a more different experience. If you plan to stretch your stay a little longer, the resting places for rent are pretty affordable. Here, you wouldn’t notice the hours go by.
