200,000 Tourists Expected at Hue Festival

With the theme “Cultural heritage with integration and development”, the 8th Hue Festival 2014 will take place from April 12-20, 2014.

Organizers of the biennial festival have lined up several new attractions to entertain the 200,000 visitors it expects to observe the celebration, half of which are foreign tourists. An artistic program during the Grand Opening Ceremony will be held on April 12th. Other key events to be featured during the 9-day celebration includes the “Imperial Night” program in the evenings of April 14th  and 18th, the “Ao dai “ Grand Show on April 15th and 17th, The spectacle show on April 16th, and the “Oriental Night” show on April 13th, 14th, 16th and 18th.

Beside Vietnamese art troupes, until now, 29 art troupes from 23 foreign countries and territories will perform in the massive street arts performances during the days of festival. A night street market, calligraphy and painting exhibitions will also be held outside the imperial palace, while a six-country cuisine festival featuring dishes from Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, and China will take place to add color to the culinary aspect of the celebration.

Kite-flying competitions, a festival for needy children and a tourism fair will also take place. Though France remained the city’s main partner for the event, many troops and delegations  from Europe, Latin America, ASEAN countries have committed to ensure the success of the festival. A closing ceremony on the evening of April 20 will conclude the celebration.
