$61.4 Million Restoration of Imperial Citadel

$61.4 Million Restoration of Imperial Citadel

The Imperial Citadel in Thua Thien- ${bigcity_Hue:"Hue"} is in the process of restoration. And the central province has an estimated amount of a staggering almost US $61.4 million for such momentous project. The Hue Imperial Citadel was built in the 19th century during the Nguyen Dynasty, known to be the last Vietnam dynasty, which ruled from 1802–1945. It was built for the purpose of becoming the central government headquarters.

But the restoration plan comes with several concerns. About 876 families or an estimated 3,000 individuals live along the citadel’s 10-kilometer wall and this means that they have to be removed from the site and relocated to a new, livable location.

The restoration project is planned to start at the end of 2011 and to be finished in 2015. It will be a close correlation between the Hue’s people’s committee and the Hue Ancient Capital Relics Preservation Center, which are also the project’s investors.

In the same light, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested the province to “do its best” to restore the citadel’s water system and rock embankment using only traditional methods. This means that the pavement along the citadel’s walls will be made of traditional Bat trang tiles.

As long as all concerns and expectations will be met, the restoration project will go along well and everyone will see a new, much more improved Imperial Citadel.
