Ba Mun Island: Haven for Flora and Fauna

Found in Bai Tu Long Bay in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh, Ba Mun Island is a cluster of beautiful islets that are rich both in flora and fauna. Cradling close to 2,000ha of lowland evergreen forest, several tree species are found here including members of the Caesalpiniaceae, Theaceae, Dipterocarpaceae, Myrtaceae and Sapotaceae families.

The park is also home to 672 species of terrestrial plants and 178 aquatic floral species, where 11 of which are found in the Viet Nam Red Book of endangered species. Ba Mun also serves as home to several rare species of animals, including the golden deer, antelope, monkeys, langurs and more, as well as sea and migratory birds. With its diverse fauna, locals call Ba Mun Island the “Animal Island”. There are also seven large streams found here, the O Lon To (big pigsty) and O Lon Con (small pigsty), as well as MieuDanh, Van Lau, Cao Lo streams, and Che flume.

The water runs all year round and is very clean thanks to large coverage of the forest. Because of its pristine natural landscape, it is also an extremely interesting destination for those who love adventure and nature. On board a high speed boat from Cai Rong wharf in Van Don district, the ride takes only 45 minutes to reach the islands. Tourists visiting Ba Mun can choose to opt for a guided tour or just explore the area on their own using some natural trails. A complete tour to Ba Mun Island would take 3 days, and 5 hours if going around the island by motorboat.

The island has a wildlife rescue centre belonging to the Bai Tu Long National Park. Tourists can contact the centre in case they need any support.
