Ba Vi National Park: The Changing of Seasons

Ba Vi National Park: The Changing of Seasons

Like most national parks perhaps, Ba Vi National Park has everything that makes people want to visit the place: lush green environment; beautiful lakes; plenty, healthy trees; and fresh air. But unlike other national parks, Ba Vi National Park stands out from the rest in its exceptionally breathtaking adaptation to the changing of seasons.

Ba Vi National Park can be found in the middle of the northern plain. And according to ancient legend, it is the final resting place of the Mountain God Tan Vien. The word Ba Vi literally means “Three Peaks.” The highest peak, called King Peak, is 1,296 meters high. Here, a temple was built to honor President Ho Chi Minh. Another temple was made in reverence to the Mountain God at Tan Vien Peak which is 1,227 meters high. Ngoc Hoa Peak is third at 1,131 meters above ground.

The Tien Sa Tourism Site is situated in front of the park and designed into several specific zones to cater to different groups and ages of its visitors. A 3,000 square meter water park with three swimming pools, nine slides, and a 2,500 square meter game area clearly supplies fun and enjoyment to children. A 20-hectare lake surrounded by 120 hectares of forest can be appreciated by both the young and adult visitors.

For the young adults, a trekking route is both a fun and educational adventure as it leads to some of the park's oldest trees, such as the Bach Xanh (calocedrus macrolepis). Growing in mutitudes in the park forest, this tree thrives at an altitude of 1,000 meters and produces a sweet-smelling fine wood used in making furnitures and houses. The forest is so dense that you can barely or at all see the sky while walking through it. Boating, tennis, badminton, football and volleyball are also available recreations in the park. In the huge forest, guests can enjoy a fun and relaxing time of bonfire while eating local delicacies (baked corn, sweet potatoes, grilled meat) and dancing and singing.

Ba Vi National Park is also rich in flora and fauna, wherein it is home to 1,200 kinds of plants and 63 species of animals. 21 kinds of the flora can be found in Viet Nam's Red Book. A new attration to the site is remnants from the French occupation wherein the road leading to the ruins was fixed in order to be accessible to the public. It's still a work in progress though since there were not so much documents collected during that time and the park administration is still in the process of gathering as much information as they can.

Standing on King Peak or Tan Vien Peak after conquering a 1,000-step climb is one of the highlights at Ba Vi National Park. It is like walking on clouds as you gaze at the breathtaking sight of nature below.

Ba Vi National Park seems to echo the changing of seasons in perfect camouflage, yet standing out in its spectacular natural beauty. The dominant colors from the wild peach blossoms and apricot flowers reflects boldly in the forest at spring. In the summer, the forest may be a little drier than usual, but definitely brighter with the immense sunlight shooting through even the thick and dense leaves of the trees. The forest is a sea of yellow at autumn time. While in winter, the fresh cool air is a welcome change.

With a view and experience like this, being at Ba Vi National Park is definitely being one with nature.
