Cat Cat Village: Natural Beauty, International Attraction

In the Northwestern part of Vietnam, Cat Cat Village is a growing tourist attraction because of its natural beauty.
Located specifically at the foot of Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range in Lao Cai Province, visitors to Cat Cat Village are treated to majestic mountains breathtakingly hidden in clouds and lush green rice terraces. But the biggest and most important attraction in the village is the H'mong natives, a local yet interesting culture to meet and learn from.
The H'mong people have gained tourism interest because of their ability to preserve not only century-old but unique customs and traditions. The women for instance are skilled at weaving colorful and intricate patterns. Using God-given nature around them, they make dyes from leaves, trees, flowers and animals and use these to produce their own fabrics. They make their cloth colorfast by rolling a smooth, rounded part of wood covered with wax.
The ethnic group also has a long-standing tradition of handicraft making from silver, copper and aluminum abundantly available and famous in the locality. The H'mong people produce sophisticated products out of these local materials.
Cat Cat Village is characterized by hundreds of houses aligned along the stone pathways distributed around the mountain area. A traditional H'mong house is composed of three rooms, three doors, and a roof made from Fokienia trees. Three columns can be found inside the house, constructed with round or square stones. The walls are made of timber. The main door is closed most of the time, and opened only during special or important occasions. All H'mong houses also have an altar and an inlaid section of the floor for keeping food. And like most typical houses, a bedroom, kitchen and receiving area make up an H'mong abode.
Guests visiting Cat Cat Village are treated to several activities traditional to the place. Folk songs and dances are played with pan-pipes, flutes, and lip-lutes synchronized with the Tien Sa waterfalls also famous in the area. Visitores have a chance to taste local foods such as corn wine, khang gai bacon and thang co. The latter is a stew made from buffalo or goat meat.
Cat Cat Village doesn't have the luxury and convenience of most popular and commercial tourist destinations today. But its traditional simplicity, natural beauty, and cultural richness makes it more than enough to attract not only local but visitors from all over the globe, making it an internationally growing tourist destination especially for time to come.
