Hue Festival 2014: Traditional Celebration With a Modern Twist

The Hue Festival is a bi-annual cultural event in Vietnam. And this year, it will be held on April with the collaboration of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Tourism. It will be a week-long event to be held at the An Dinh Palace (located on the Southern bank of the Perfume River opposite the former Imperial Citadel.)
Unlike the past celebrations though, this year's activities will include modern flamenco, pop and even rock music. This is an effort to attract the younger generation and go beyond the usual belief that the festival is only limited to traditional culture and values.
This year's event is organized by the Hue Festival Centre with Huynh Tien Dat as the the Deputy Director. And in line with their revolutionary mission of capturing a young audience, bands from several countries such as Britain, France, Germany and Japan have been invited to perform every night during the duration of the festival.
These foreign artists include Michachu from England, Stoffer and Maskinen from Denmark, Gasandji from Congo and Tararam from Israel. Deep Blue will play the violin and violoncello. Ha Noi bands Lang Du, Nam Dong Ke and Co La will perform flamenco, while Dang Lan will sing French songs. A rock show resembling Rock Storm, a live performance tour around the country by Vietnamese bands, is also scheduled for the grand festivity.
In line with the Hue Festival celebration is an International Food Festival that will take place on April 15-19, 2014 at the Phu Xuan Park (Nghinh Luong Dinh – Phu Van Lau), Hue City. This activity is in collaboration with the Hotel Association of Thua Thuien Hua organization together with the two departments mentioned earlier working for the success of the Hue Festival this year.
