Massive Fire Burns down Plastic Plant in Hanoi; Billions in Damages

A 1,000-square-meter plastic plant went up in flames early Monday morning that took several hours to extinguish. The factory belongs to ${bigcity_Hanoi:"Hanoi"} Plastic Joint-stock Company in Long Bien District.

Reports suggest that the fire started at around 1.20 a.m. in a storage facility inside the plant. Hundreds of firefighters and 9 trucks from the Hanoi fire brigade battled the huge fire. A massive column of heavy, black smoke could be seen from all over the area and people from the community could only watch as the structure was engulfed in flames. Blaze were shooting several feet above the air and the effort to stop the fire seemed like an eternity until it was finally put out at 5 in the morning.

In a relative news, another fire consumed a complex of industrial storage facilities in the central city of Da Nang during 7:30 PM on Sunday.

There were no casualties from both incidents but the fires are estimated to have caused damage worth billions of dong. As one of the major manufacturers of industrial plastic products in Hanoi, its hundreds of workers are also uncertain of their future.
