Mooc: Pleasant Mystery

“Water sprouting out from the earth's worm.” This is what the name “Mooc” or “Moc” means. And with its source of water coming from an unknown system of underground rivers running through the length of limestone mountains, Mooc Stream Eco-Tourism Area is a mysterious element in the forest and mountains of Phong Nha-Ke Bang, an added interest and attraction to tourists worldiwde.
Mooc Stream Eco-Tourism Area can be found at Phong Na-Ke Bang National Park, Phuc Trach Commune, Bo Trach District in Quang Binh Province. It is located about 60 kilometers North of Dong Hoi City. It is 30 hectares big surrounded by a limestone mountains and a valley in the middle. It is home to 1,081 species of animals and 2,560 kinds of plants. It pioneers in merging eco-tourism and awareness-increasing in preserving the environment, nature, and heritages sites in Quang Binh Province.
Under the project “Preserving and Sustainably Managing Natural Resources in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park” by the German Organization for Technical Cooperation, Mooc Stream was established as an eco-tourism site in 2008. The Garden Management Board invested in and managed the said endeavor.
Mooc is a convergence of many rivulets. It has a 90-meter square lake which is believed to be the starting point of the stream and exits at Chay River. The water is exceptionally clean and blue all year round, even more so in the summer when the water seems to turn into a sparkling turquoise. White sand, dry winds, ancient trees, adorable bridges, and beautiful red Sita Ashok flowers can also be found at the area, a delight to any visitor.
Aside from basking in the awe-inspiring natural beauty of the place, Mooc Stream Eco-Tourism also offers additional services like swimming and kayaking to treat its guests to full satisfaction. Moreover, after a pleasant tour around the eco-tourism area, visitors can even enjoy a traditional Quang Binh meal in leaf-roofed thatches for an authentic dining experience.
Today, the 1,500 long road is being preserved and developed to become a tourist route. When experts from the British Caving Association first conducted a survey in the area, it was said that they were so overwhelmed by the beauty of the natural phenomenon at Mooc that they could not explain its origin or awesomeness as a whole. And this is why Mooc Stream Eco-Tourism Area is considered a msyterious gem, a paradise of both escape and peace to anyone who is lucky enough to embrace the experience.
