Nature’s Treat in Vietnam’s North

In the province of Quang Ninh in Vietnam’s North, an abundance of nature awaits to be tapped, encountered and experienced. Not many people have explored the beauty in the Yen Hung District as it may not be as spoken about compared to popular tourist destinations.

But for those who have seen the splendor of the attractions, or better yet, the many of nature’s gifts sitting in this place, it wouldn’t be hard to believe that paradise is indeed real. Just journey around 40 km to the South from ${bigcity_Hanoi:"Hanoi"} through the Thang Long Boulevard, and find yourself in the 300-hectare Suoi Ngoc – Vua Ba Tourism Park. Here, the view of tiny stilt houses sitting at the bottom of the mountains will welcome you. If you climb the Vua Ba Mountain (which is more than 1,000 meters high), the top will unfold a breathtaking surprise.

The scenery is simply to die for. You will also find a temple dedicated to Hai Ba Trung. As you spiral through the path of wild flowers and the tapering mountains ranges, the Suoi Ngoc navigated rocks of various sizes before cascading into a grandiose 100-meter high waterfall forming gentle foams as it drops below the stream (Pearl Stream). Beyond its beauty, the stream also hold an interesting story. Legend say that the Trung Sisters chose the river and surrounding mountains as a military base in their fight against Chinese invaders during 40 AD.

The heroines won the battle and the older sister, Trung Trac, established herself as the ruler of an independent state. Commemorating the heroine, people named the then military base Suoi Ngoc – Vua Ba (Pearl Stream – Lady King).

But the joy doesn’t end there. As you make your way down, the canopy of tall tree will keep you shaded. You may also want to loosen more a bit and join the many folk games including archery, walking on stilts and the many other activities for locals and tourists. If you seek for more adventure, there is a water park with 18 water spouts. But perhaps the day won’t be complete unless you sit under the stilt houses and splurge in the delicious specialties prepared by locals.
