NYT Names Quang Binh in 2014 Places to Go

to in 2014. The province is where the Son Doong Cave, the world’s largest cave recognized as of 2009, is located and have been recently become open to tourists.

 

Quang Binh is famous for its charming landscape of mountain and sea. A popular tourist destination in the province is the Phong Nha- Ke Bang National Park, a protected area is found in the Truong Son limestone zone and is home to massive karsts, caves and grottoes. It was declared a World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2003.

 

The Bang Mineral Hot Spring, Tien Son caves, the deserted Chim or Gio Island, Nhat Le and Da Nhay beaches are worthy must-visits in the province as well. Also in Quang Binh is an archaeological site of Bau Tro, Hoa Binh and Dong Son cultures and several historical relics such as Quang Binh Quan, Luy Thay, outer walls of Trinh – Nguyen, Canh Duong, Xuan Bo, Cha Lo, Cong Troi, Gianh river, Long Dai, and the Ho Chi Minh legendary trail.

Recently, global prestigious magazines have listed destinations in Viet Nam among places that should be visited. The Mekong River located in the Cambodia-Viet Nam section, also made it in NYT’s list at number 35.

 

Other places featured in the list include Downtown in Los Angeles, Namibia, Seychelles, Ecuador, Arctic Circle, Nepal, and Niagara Falls. Cape Town of South Africa topped the list.

New York Times’ annual ‘Places to Go’ list has grown larger every year. Looking back to its 31 picks from 2010, 41 in 2011, 45 in 2012, and 46 in 2013,

 

According to the editorial team and publishers, the list is incorporated from the suggestions of dozens of overseas-based contributing writers and is narrowed down according to set criteria and standards. The main goal for completing the 2014 list is to come up with a variety of regions and interests, with some surprises mixed in. .

Though in the beginning Cape Town was already seen to most likely rank on top for having drawn a lot of tourists worldwide for its amazing beaches and night life, the recent death of Nelson Mandela made the choice more meaningful.
