Tourism in Hon Mau Island Seen to Boost

The Hon Island in the southern province of Kien Giang will soon be a must-visit destination for holiday-makers. This is after a huge developer, Tran Thai Real Estate Company, announced its plans to set up fact-finding tours in order to lay out plans for eco-tourism development on the island.

About 90km far from Rach Gia city, Hòn Mau is one of the twenty one small, beautiful and ideal islands in the Nam Du archipelago, Kien Hai district. Most of the island residents live on fishery and are very friendly and hospitable.

Nature has endowed the island with magnificent landscapes and five beautiful beaches, Chuong, Nam, Bac, Da Đen (Black Rock) and Da Trang (White Rock). Two of such beaches, Chuong and Nam, are known for its fine white sand. Black Rock and White Rock beaches are visited for their many beautiful rocks with diverse shapes and colors, which tourists mostly pick up and take home as souvenirs.

According to Nguyen Trung Thanh, General Director of Tran Thai Real EstateCompany, Hon Mau Island has potential for becoming an eco-tourism model. As the company is responsible for the construction involved in the development efforts of the island, careful study involving a lot of considerations will be implemented after the survey. Their actions will have to consider several factors to attract tourists and have to pay attention to every detail including the security, hygiene, accommodation with attentive services, convenient transportation, the quality of tour guides, information and guide books.

Apart from the beautiful natural scenery, Hon Mau also has a wide range of seafood such as fish, squid, crabs and sea snails to serve tourists. Once the investment for tourism development is in place, the many tourism services that will come into demand will also help improve the livelihood of the locals. The present moves are results of contributing efforts between the locals and the involved agencies. In no time, Hon Mau will be a very attractive destination to both domestic and international visitors.
