Traffic Policeman Clings to Bus Wiper to Catch Reckless Driver

A Vietnam cop climbs and hangs on to a wiper after the bus driver refuses to stop due to a traffic violation. Nguyen Manh Phan is a traffic lieutenant in ${bigcity_Hanoi:"Hanoi"}. It was supposed to be a typical day at work that Monday when a bus driven by Phung Hong Phuong, 37 years old, passed by and drove on the wrong side of the road. As a standard operating procedure, Phan pulled the bus over and asked for the driver’s documents.

But instead of producing his papers, the driver quickly went back to his bus in an attempt to run away from the law. In an instinct, Phan jumped in front of the bus and clung to the wiper of the bus to stop the driver from escaping. For the next kilometer, the traffic cop hung on to the wiper and for his dear life as the driver sped away.

The bus driver only stopped and finally pulled over when he realized other policemen were chasing him from behind. The officers had to restrain bystanders from attacking Phuong, executing their own brand of justice.

Phuong later on confessed that the only reason why he attempted to run away from the law is that he already had a previous police record, having been imprisoned for four years for the charge of running over and killing a person in the southern part of the country.

“Acting against public officials” will be added to his previous charges.
